“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth. The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression. May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:1-14
How can we not appreciate the beauty of God’s creation? Everywhere we look, there are scenes that can take our breath away. Nature has been created with an intricate detail and purpose, and we are still discovering new things even today. The sun, moon and stars were placed specifically in their place, and they follow mathematical laws that were also put into place by His hands. Science cannot explain why the universe follows these laws, but we know the One that made it this way. The scope of what we can observe is so vast, from atomic particles to the galaxies, and He’s got the whole world in His hands.
It’s no wonder that all glory, honor and power belong to the LORD. Who can we trust but He who made the heavens and the earth? He created us to depend on Him, to worship Him, and to learn His ways. His commands are indeed radiant, and His decrees are firm. They are what keep us from willful sins that they may not rule over us. They warn us, and by keeping them, they reward us. God knows the deepest part of our hearts, and understands our weakness. He created a path so we can be reconciled. There is no one else who is so faithful and just. There is no one like our God. Let His word rule over our hearts, so that we may be pleasing in His sight.
Prayer
Blessed are you, LORD our God, King of the Universe. All creation declares the beauty of your majesty. The days reflect your radiant light, the nights mirror the deep thick darkness of your mysteries. Days fade into night and nights recede into the light of day. You bring all seasons into their fullness. Teach us to love both what we understand and do not understand of your nature. May we not fear sunsets and endings as they retreat into the fog of your mystery. May we look to what is ahead – the dawning of a new day full of adventure and discovery – with great hope and expectation. And may all reveal your grace and glory.
Scripture Memorization
Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
